WHAT IS COUNSELLING AND WHAT CAN IT OFFER?
Counselling provides a supportive, non-judgemental, accepting space where you can explore and make sense of your difficulties, helping you gain a new sense of perspective and make choices that reflect your values and could empower you towards feeling better equipped for the future and more fulfilled.
By approaching our lives with mindfulness we can slow things down so we can see more clearly what is happening at the time it is happening and how we are sometimes reacting to our situation in automatic and unhelpful ways.
The success of any therapy depends largely on the quality of the therapeutic relationship. I can be contacted by phone or email to make an initial appointment so that you can find out whether you will feel comfortable to share your concerns and experiences with me, for some this can be hard if it is the first time they have done this. We will work at your pace, sometimes its hard to know where to start, we can discuss how to prioritise what's important to you..

HOW I WORK
I enhance my work with mindfulness based approaches and Compassionate Focused Therapy (CFT). Integrating these approaches means that therapy can be adapted around your needs. The common theme within these approaches is to help clients to recognise their thoughts , feelings and physical sensations and to explore whether they influence behaviours that may be keeping problems going.
I recently trained in energy psychotherapy which incorporates energy psychology methods into psychotherapy, these methods work to remove disruptions to our energy system caused by distressing events.I am trained in using:
Advanced Integrative Therapy - (AIT)
Emotional Freedom Technique - (EFT)
I have found AIT to be a powerful process to deal with the profoundest traumas in a way that is safe and non traumatising.
I am always interested to hear how you are experiencing our work together and we will have regular reviews at 6 -8 weeks..

At an initial session we can explore together the issues that you bring, look at what you hope to gain from counselling and decide if we can work together. If this is the first time you have come for therapy it's not uncommon to not have any sense of what your needs are, together we can work towards identifying these with the aim of helping you enhance your life and live it more fully. You will have the opportunity to ask me any questions.
It is important when you meet a counsellor to feel comfortable with them, and that you feel you will be able to trust them and speak about issues you may find painful, distressing or troubling. My aim is to help you feel comfortable and safe to explore what you bring to a session and go at a pace that feels right for you.
While therapeutic change does not generally happen overnight (although some people do make fast progress), I do not wish my clients to feel caught up in an open-ended process. So, I generally agree an initial set number of sessions with you, and we review things every six sessions or so to see whether we are on track and when you would like to end. Often the initial number of
agreed sessions is 6, but it can be more or less, according to what you feel your needs are at the time of our first meeting. We generally meet weekly, but the option to meet fortnightly or even monthly is there. Each session lasts one hour.

CONFIDENTIALITY AND ETHICS
What you talk about in the sessions is private & confidential. I will not share any information from or about you, except in exceptional circumstances, (i.e if I think someone is at risk of serious harm). As a BACP accredited counsellor I have regular supervison from a qualified supervisor which helps maintain the quality of my work, all discussions are on an anonymous basis.
